Fedak, Lykina in Final Qualifying round at Sony Ericsson Tashkent Open PDF Print E-mail

FedakTashkent, September 20:  Top seeded Yuliana Fedak of Ukraine  moved  a step closer to qualifying for the main draw, while local hope Albina Khabibulina was stopped by fourth seed Ksenia Lykina  in the second round qualifying at the11th edition of the Sony Ericsson Tashkent Open being played at the Olympic Tennis school   here.
In the matches played today Fedek quelled a late challenge from Russian wildcard Aminat Kushkova winning 6-2,7-5. Local girl Albina Khabibulina who showed promise winning her first round yesterday went down without a fight to fourth seeded Ksenia Lykina. The fourth seed Russian Lykina won 6-3,6-1.
The other seeds who moved into the final round include Eighth seeded  Lesya Tsurenko of Ukraine  who put out  Anastasiya Prenko of Turkmenistan   7-6(6), 6-0  ,Seventh seeded Natalia Orlova of Russia who outplayed Israeli  Julia Glushko 6-1,6-3 ,Sixth seeded Arina Rodionova of Russia who accounted for Karolina Wlodarczak of Australia 6-2,6-1 and fifth seed Alexandra Panova of Russia who won two back to back matches also moved into the final round scraping past  a fighting Karla Mraz of France 7-5,4-6,6-4 in the longest match of the day.
French duo of  Laura Thorpe and Kristina Mladenovic were the only unseeded players to move into the final round to be played tomorrow.

Кristina upsets second seed Palkina

Tashkent, September 19 : Seventeen year-old Uzbek player Albina Khabibulina  making  most of her wildcard entry scored a close three set win over Czech Republic’s Eugeniya Pashkova (Cze)  7-5,4-6,6-4 to enter the second round qualifying of the Sony Erricson Tashkent Open WTA Championships.
In the first round qualifying Khabibulina playing patchy tennis prevailed over her more experienced opponent in a 2hrs 26 minute tussle to give the home crowd something to cheer about.
“I’ve to improve on my mental tennis, and learn to close out the match” said the teenager after the match. Every time I was up I lost my momentum, but I’m happy to have won the first round after three attempts at the event, she added.
I’ve played well this year , and won  $10000 event at Chimgen , my wish is to qualify for the main draw ,it’ll really give me boost , added Khabubulina who missed out on playing the event last year as she was representing Uzbekistan  at the Under 16 world junior team championships .
On the adjoining courts second seeded Ksenia Palkina, who made it to the main draw last year   was shown the door by French player Kristina Mladenovic. The plucky Kristina won 3-6, 6-1, and 6-4. Another French player Laura Thorpe upset third seed Russian Elena Chalova  7-6(4),6-3 to move up.
In a battle of wildcards Aminat Kushkhova of Russia scored a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over local challenger Vlada Ekshibarova to make it to round two.  Another local wild card Lola Azimova showed some initial promise before going down to Austrian Karolina Wlodarczak 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
